Aldine President Rodd Blessey Joined Sunny Han on Fulcrum Podcast

Rodd Blessey, president of Aldine Metal Products, appeared on Fulcrum’s Capacity podcast. During an interview  with Sunny Han, Founder and CEO of Fulcrum, Rodd explained his path from living above his family’s metal fabrication shop as a child, to becoming the 3rd generation to run Aldine.

Rodd discusses his memories of seeing his father get up in the morning and going downstairs to work. Watching his family work together and learning about his father and grandfather’s dedication to their employees shaped his concepts of the relationship between family and business and his firm commitment to both.

While the transition of ownership from generation to generation never had a defined process, Rodd was intentional when it became his time to run the company. Even though there were some bumps in the road, Rodd ensured that his family was on the same page with his vision for the future. His approach to running the business has always been structured and intentional - while putting family and employees first in all his decisions.

Aldine Metal’s slogan is Quality People, Quality Parts. Rodd has worked hard to instill his passion for people and his passion to serve in the company culture. He realized that if he stepped back and let his team do what they were good at and work together, they could problem-solve and learn from each other. This approach encourages employee leadership - and Rodd is amazed at what his team can accomplish!

When creating customer relationships, the goal isn’t to get as many quotes out as possible. Aldine aims to create long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships based on commitment and integrity. If a company is just looking to have their project made at the cheapest price, Aldine is not the right fit. Rodd uses the company slogan and culture to inform the types of customers he works with. When developing long-term partnerships with his customers, Rodd and his team are “all-in.” He said, “My goal is to make my customers successful.” Quality and service are paramount from the first introductory meeting to the shipment of finished products. Rodd welcomes input from his customers, and likewise, Aldine will give customers insight and recommendations for manufacturing efficiencies and cost savings.

Rodd’s further conversation with Sunny Han dives into the shift in expectations in family businesses, the importance of manufacturing in the global economy, and the benefits of in-person relationships and online collaboration. Plus, you learn about Rodd’s DJ experience (and fantastic name) while in college and early in his time at Aldine!
